Carbon tax

From Wikipedia:

A carbon tax is an environmental tax that is levied on the carbon content of fuels. Carbon atoms are present in every fossil fuel (coal, petroleum, and natural gas) and are released as carbon dioxide (CO2) when they are burnt. In contrast, non-combustion energy sources—wind, sunlight, hydropower, and nuclear—do not convert hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide.

A carbon tax can be implemented by taxing the burning of fossil fuels—coal, petroleum products such as gasoline and aviation fuel, and natural gas—in proportion to their carbon content. Accordingly, a carbon tax increases the competitiveness of non-carbon technologies compared to the traditional burning of fossil fuels, thus helping to protect the environment while raising revenues.

So, if it is imposed, then it will encourage Australia to move towards 100% renewable energy.

The tax will be about $0.0115 per kw/h or electricity. (depending on the coal source type)
My house uses about 15 kw/h per day.
Which equates to about 17 cents per day carbon tax.

Over a 3 month billing cycle, that's $15.30.

Big deal. So all the energy the protesters are expending, and all the money they are spending on their signs and their time for protesting, and costs of travelling to the places to protest, they are doing all that, to save themselves $5.10 per month. That's the typical mentality of that type of people.

You seriously have to wonder about the intellect of the carbon tax protesters.
