Words you need to stop misspelling!

(So you don't spell like a 6 year old)

Lose

Opposite of Win.

- If I lose this game, I'll eat a donkey!

- You look like a loser if you can't spell lose!

Loose

Not tight.
Rhymes with Moose and Goose

- These pants are too loose! - I must have lost weight!


Then

Used for time.

First I had a coffee, then I went to the gym.

Than

Used for comparison.

I'm better at making coffee than my girlfriend!


Definitely.

(NOT Definately)

There is no A in "Definitely".

It comes from 'Finite'. 

 


Bought

When you buy something.

Notice neither have an "R".

Brought

When you bring something.

Notice they both start with "BR".


Lie/lying

When the thing you are talking about is making them self horizontal:

- I want to lie down. I was lying down.

- They will lie down. They were lying down.

- He will lie on the floor. He was lying.

Lay/laying

When you make something horizontal that isn't you:

- I will lay this down here.

- It was laying down.

- I will lay these cards out on the table.


Weird, NOT Wierd

Remember it by how you say it: We - ird

This breaks the 'i before e except after c' rule.

Refers to a place or an idea

- Put it over there.

- There's a good idea.

Their

Possessive

- Their car,

- Their cow.

They're

Contraction of "They are"

- They're going to disneyland!

- They're so lucky!


Your

Possessive.

- Your hat. Your car. Your life.

You're

A contraction of "You are".

- You're going to remember this!


He's

A contraction of "He is ".

- He's going to be happy you leanred all this!

- He's alive!

- He's one cool guy!

His

Belongs to Him .

- It's his car!!

- His girlfriend broke up with him

- He's lost all his money!


Its

Possessive.

Use this when something belongs to something.

- Its tyres are bald.
- Its eyes were bright.

It's

Contraction of it is or it has.

- It's a cold night tonight!
- It's going to be be a long one!
- It's been a while.
- it's cool to be able to spell properly!


Effect

Noun.

- Eating vegetables will have a good effect on your health .

- The stuff in movies? Sound effects and special effects.

Affect

Verb, (what you do to something).

- His health was affected by his good eating habits.

- The bad weather didn't affect our holiday too much


Weather

- The weather is hot today!

Whether

- I don't know whether to go out or not.


Alot

You don't write alittle, abunch, acar, amuppet, so don't write alot.

Possessive.

Oh, and you should stop saying 'are' when you want to say 'our' too. Our rhymes with Hour

State of being.

- As thick as a board, as in a floor board, which is what you won't seem like now that you have learned this!

Opposite of yes

- No, I didn't graduate grade 1. That's why I don't know the difference between 'no' and 'know'...
